Privacy policy

What we store

• Anonymous device ID. A random identifier generated in your browser. It is not linked to your name, email or any account, and it is not shared with third parties.
• Likes. Which archived items you hearted, tied to that random device ID, so popular finds can surface for others.
• View duration. How long a card was on screen. This tells us which items are worth showing more often.
• Archived item metadata. Titles, years and identifiers of items the feed has served. This is public data from the Internet Archive, not data about you.

Stored only on your device

Your seen-item history and any local settings live in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device, and clearing your browser data erases them.

What we do not do

No advertising trackers, no cross-site profiling, no selling or renting data. We do not ask for your name, email or location, and we do not attempt to identify you.

Third parties

Media is loaded directly from archive.org, so the Internet Archive receives requests from your browser (including your IP address) and handles them under their own privacy policy. Our hosting and database providers process requests on our behalf to run the service.

Retention

Anonymous like and view records are kept while they remain useful for ranking. Because they carry no identifying information, we cannot match them back to a person.

Your choices

Clearing your browser storage resets your device ID and local history; from then on, previous activity cannot be connected to you. If you have a question about your data, email hello@spool99.com.

Children

Spool99 is not directed at children under 13. Archived material is historical and unmoderated by nature, and some of it is not suitable for younger viewers.

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
