About Spool99
Spool99 is a mindless-scroll time machine. Every swipe rewinds the counter from today back to the year a piece of the internet was made — and drops you straight into it.
What it is
Spool99 pulls from the Internet Archive: personal homepages from 1997, public-domain films, scanned photographs, shareware and old software. Nothing is algorithmically polished or optimised for engagement. It is the strange, slow, hand-built internet as it actually looked.
How it works
Each card is a live item from the Internet Archive. Websites are real Wayback Machine captures, rendered as they existed on that date. Films and images stream directly from archive.org. The year roller shows you exactly how far back you just travelled.
Swipe or scroll for the next find, tap the heart (or double-tap the card) if something is worth keeping. Spool99 remembers what you have already seen on your device, so the feed keeps giving you new things.
Why
Most of the web that existed before 2016 is gone or unreachable. The Internet Archive saved a huge amount of it, but browsing an archive is work. Spool99 turns that work into a feed: no search box, no plan, just the next thing you did not know existed.
